The painting exhibits her liberation and the new difficulties in the marriage through items like stones and a dark mountain. When Remedios married Lizzaraga in 1930, she got freedom and finally moved out from her family. They move towards the mountain with a sense of anticipation, as displayed through the pebbles on the boat. One hand of the man is on the woman's waist, whereas the other may be behind him. The woman in a blue dress and yellow hair holds the rudder, like a shell, whereas the man holds seven strings that make a vessel-like structure. The Golden ground has dry leaves as depicted in the painting, and the dark-tense colour of the mountain looks more gothic here. The painting by Remedios Varo displays a man and a woman riding in a small boat towards a mountain cave with the threads attached.
